dr_fumbles_mcstupid: (nerd dance big band theory)
My dork factor has just gone up by one million. My final project for sci-fi lit class is displacement and differences: Analyzing the Self and the other in Invader Zim. It is really ridiculous how excited I am to do this presentation and it is not just because It is on Invader Zim, the ideas behind it are getting me really excited, i have found a lot to analyze in the show. But Hey one of the other guys in my class is using Batman Beyond and Samurai Jack to show Dystopian futures, so we are basically just the coolest class ever. Also this means that my homework for this week is having an invader Zim marathon :)

In other news the Cracked.com article on Livejournal is Frikin Hilarious

LiveJournal is 95 percent female. Like an acting club or cheerleading squad, the minority of males who use it are either gay or there for the chicks. The all-female atmosphere means that 95 percent of LJ comments consist of people hugging each other, and the other 5 percent consist of people apologizing for judging someone’s Harry Potter rape fanart.

Person A: This is pretty intense.
Person B: You’ve offended me.
Person A: I didn’t mean to. I merely meant that your portrayal of rape is quite subversive to the dominant patriarchal worldview.
Person B: My feelings are still hurt.
Person A: I’m so sorry. Hugs.
Person B: Hugs.

Go read it now!

dr_fumbles_mcstupid: (Harry Potter)

Last semester I took a literature and Film class at Pima community college. It was one of the best writing classes I have ever taken. We read The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the wardrobe, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s stoneThe Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the RingFrankenstein and Dracula and compared them to the movies. It was fun to look at the different ways directors turned the book into a movie. One of the fields I am looking at going into is the Film industry and when I read a good book I always think “how could this be turned into a movie?” It was a little annoying in the class because there were so many people saying “This was missing or different!” In some cases I could see it was important but for the most part a book can’t be translated directly into a movie. There are a lot of things that wouldn’t work. We had many debates in that class and I cherished crushing my opponents with my infallible logic! Anyways For the final we had to write a comparison and contrast essay about one book and a film adaptation. I chose to do Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. I chose to do the forbidden Forest Scene. I think I brought up a lot of good points and it was a fun essay to write.

Without further ado my essay )
